Irosun, the Resounding Osun

 

The Odu Ifa Irosun is known as the "Resounding Osun", Osun being the Orisha that protects the Ori of the awo. Now the head or Ori is the place where consciousness stores its memory, so in a certain sense Osun protects or perception and understanding of the past. Following this line of thought, Irosun represents the fixed reality of those things that have already happened. Ifa divination, like the religion of Ifa-Orisha itself, attaches much value to recognizing the wisdom of the past: we are what we are because we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us.
